Additional information:
Chromis Atripectoralis, also known as Blackaxil Chromis is native to the Indo-Pacific and north of Australia where it can be found in clear lagoons, passages, and seaward reef slopes. The Blackaxil Chromis occur in large aggregations feeding on plankton above staghorn Acropora corals at depths of 3-95 feet.
The Blackaxil Chromis has uniform blue green colour and is often confused with Chromis viridis. Chromis Atripectoralis differs from Chromis viridis, by possessing a small black area above the pectoral fin and they are a little bigger as adults. In some specimens, the black spot is really small and hard to notice.
Unfortunately, many collectors, wholesalers, and retailers don’t make the difference between the two when they sell them. I am actually unsure about the one on the picture above. It could be Chromis viridis. If you can help with this, please use the comment form bellow.
The Blackaxil Chromis is a very active fish that should only be kept in groups consisting of at least five individuals. It is normal for the dominant fish to bicker with the others. If the other members of the group seem to be seriously disturbed by the bickering, the group is most likely too small.
They spend most of their time in the upper part of the tank and will school if kept in groups.
Ideally, pH should be at 8.1-8.4, specific gravity at 1.020-1.025, and temperature should be between 75-81° F.
