Common names: Emerald Mythrax Crab, Green Emerald Crab, Green Crab, Emerald Crab
Family: Mithracidae
Order: Decapoda (lobster, shrimp and crabs)
Class: Malacostraca
Maximum length: 3 in.
Minimum tank size: 10 gallons
Hardiness: Easy
Aggressiveness: Semi-aggressive. It could attack fish but usually do more good than harm. In general, the larger the crab, the more likely they are to become a problem in the tank. keep an eye on it, remove it if it becomes a problem.
Reef Compatibility:
Distribution: Western Atlantic Ocean
Diet: Omnivore. Feeds on meaty food, algae (mostly bubble algae) and detritus. If the aquarium does not have enough algae then supplement with some herbivore food.

Additional information:
Emerald Mythrax is an hardy crab found in the Western Atlantic Ocean, commonly found in rubble zones from a depth of less than a foot to about 8 or 10 feet of water. . It has a flat green body with ten hairy legs. The first pair of legs is developed into large claws. As it grows, Emerald Mythrax molt and leave it’s chitinous layer behind looking as if it had died.

Often part of the “cleanup crew”, it scavenge the tank at night for leftover food or algae and became popular to control bubble algae (valonia). It may knock a few things over, so make sure to secur things down.

The ideal aquarium should have a temperature of 72 to 78F with a pH of 8.1 to 8.4 and a specific gravity between 1.023 and 1.025. It requires plenty of rock work and hiding places. It require a well-established aquarium with ample rocks, crevices, caves. You can keep more than one Mithrax sculptus in your marine aquarium.
