Filamentous algae are single algae cells that form long visible chains, threads, or filaments. Some are attached (epiphytic), some are free floating. There are many species of filamentous algae that can find their way into the aquarium or pond. Each of them have various names that only contribute to the confusion.
Few years ago I stumbled upon an interesting and efficient way to remove all kinds of micro and hair algae in fresh and saltwater aquarium. The technique use an adsorbant call Metal Gone to first “starve” the algae and a bacteria starter called Right Now Bacteria to consume the weakened algae.
