Earth Pellets Review
DESCRIPTION
Once Earth Pellets are in your filter, your filtration system will be able to maintain the strongest nitrogen cycle ever. Now, simply pour in one dose of RIGHT NOW BACTERIA. Like any living organism, bacteria produce Co2. Unfortunately, a regular filtration system does not allow enough bacteria to supply the Co2 needed for your plants. This system WILL produce a sufficient and stable amount of Co2 for plant growth when you use a simple canister filter!
| REVIEW I was curious about this product so I gave it a try. At this point, I think I have been using it for enough (2 years) to review it. First, let’s talk about its filtration capacity. They claim Earth pellets has a surface area in contact with water of 980 meter squared per gram while most media on the market has something between 100 and 500 meter squared per gram. |
When used with Right Now Bacteria, this filter can easily handle any tank whatever how many fish there is.
Now let’s talk about that CO2 supply thing. It’s a fact that bacteria produce Co2 like any living organism. However, CO2 generated from bacteria in our filters won’t help much for plant growth. I tried the Earth Pellets with and without Right Now Bacteria. When used without Right Now Bacteria, Earth Pellets makes a great filtration media but won’t produce much CO2. However, it works just great when used with the Right Now Bacteria. It’s not as good as my pressurized CO2 system but it’s a great alternative to yeast-based systems. I estimate my CO2 at about 20ppm and it’s not going up and down like it does with yeast-based system.
To conclude with this review, I would say that if you are using a yeast-based CO2 system, you would definitely benefit from this system. Your life will be much easier: no refill, no mess, stable pH, stable CO2. If you’re using a pressurized system, you already have what’s best so stick to it.

Where can I find this stuff? It is called something different in the UK? My LFS hadn’t heard of it, or of the Right Now Bacteria.
Hello!
That I know, only a few online store sell those products so they are not easy to find. I decided to make them available right here at AquariumsLife.com. Should be ready sometime this month.
If you want me to email you when they will be available, just send me an email (see “contact us” above).
regards
Couldn’t you just use regular filter media with a lot of surface area and then use the right now bacteria? To me it seems that since no significant CO2 levels were achieved with the media alone,it is the bacterial additive that is the important variable and not the media. Tell me what you think.S
Hi,
I assume it would work if you can get a media with that kind of surface area.
I spoke to the supplyer of that product and I will have to edit my review. The surface area is something like 2,300 squared meters per gram, not 980. Sorry for the confusion.
The amount of Earth Pellets required can be calculated this way:
(0.1667 X volume of the tank) divided by 2.
Example: (0.1667 X 40 gallons) / 2 = 3.3 lbs for a 40 gallon tank
