REVIEW
I always said small skimmers are a waste of money but I have to say that I am impressed about this one. It works very well, it’s near-silent, compact, low maintenance, well built and it produce a nice dark skimmant. It’s just perfect for the nano aquarium.
The see-through body of the skimmer allows you to see the amount of bubbles it is producing so it’s easier to adjust it.
And the big bonus: It’s low cost! At $58 (it’s almost a steal).

I find the adjustment knob too close to the collection cup and that makes it a little tough to turn. The other inconvenient is that the collection cup is a little small and that you need to put your hand in the tank to replace it after emptying it out.

I strongly recommend this skimmer to anyone looking for a compact, inexpensive and efficient protein skimmer.

I’ve had this skimmer for exactly two weeks now on a 30 gal. From everything I read, it takes about two weeks to break in which is true. I’m starting to get really dark skimmate. The only real drawback I see is that you must use your thumb and push the skimmer against the glass when installing the collection cup. It is a little loud. Kinda sounds like a coffee maker. Maybe when I get a hood that will cut down on the noise. It does throw out micro bubbles which have lessened with time. Some suggest putting some foam in the outlet.
You wouldn’t want to use this on anything over a 30 gal.
I can’t knock it for the price. It is a fantastic little skimmer. This is one of those times you get more than what you paid for.

  • Hello Bryan!
Thank you for your review. It’s been a little while since I wrote my review of that skimmer. Last week, I told myself I should edit the review and add some more to it.
At first, I the unit was near-silent, but I don’t agree with that anymore. Just like you said, it’s like a cofee maker. Looks like all the noise is coming from the small hole in the unit (right beside de colection cup).
An other thing I don’t like is the bubble coming out the colection cup through the two small holes in the lid. Do you have this problem? I don’t use the lid anymore.

However, I am still very happy with this skimmer!
