Getting rid of Green Dust Algae (GDA) on aquarium glass

Green Dust Algae aka GDA is an algae in the zoospore stage that form a dusty looking green film on the aquarium glass. It is a free swimming algae that is extremely hard to kill. For reasons I don’t know, it seams to avoid attaching to plants and hardscape items.
When facing this algae problem, the first thing we do is to scrape it off but it is actually the worst thing to do. When scraped off the class, GDA simply swim around until it find its way back to the glass.
The best way to get rid of it (it worked for me) is to let it live out it’s life cycle on the glass for 21 days, without disturbing it. During that period, GDA will mature and eventually die off and drop off the glass. After GDA has lived out it’s life cycle, it can be scraped off the glass and won’t return.
This is only one of the many ways to deal with Green Dust Algae. If you know other techniques, please share with us using the comment box bellow. Thanks!
